Private Duty Care Can Decrease Hospital Readmissions

In past years hospital readmissions within 30 days of discharge have been high. The government has taken action and started to penalize hospitals, skilled care, physicians etc. in an effort to ensure the safety of the patients. A study published by Dartmouth listed four of the top five reasons for hospitalizations are: patients not understanding what is wrong with them, patient mismanagement of medications, patients not going to a follow up with their doctor, and families not having the education for adequate care.

There is a tool that can help to eliminate these reasons for readmission and it is already at your disposal. Private Duty care is a tool that has been underutilized but can have strong positive effects on patient care. Private duty care offers assistance with Activities of Daily Living (bathing, feeding, dressing, transferring, etc.) and can include assistance with light housekeeping, meal preparation, transportation and more.

This enables the client to focus on their recovery and eliminates anxiety over handling tasks on their own, all while drastically reducing the risk of hospital readmissions. Queen City Homecare adds an additional level of care by utilizing a Registered Nurse to manage and monitor all cases allowing symptoms of Urinary Tract Infections, Respiratory Issues, etc. to be caught before they result in higher health risks and readmission to the hospital.
